Protocol confusion via unchecked device-tree IDs
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Protocol confusion in Linux arm_scmi allows attackers to select an unintended SCMI protocol via malformed device-tree values. The device-tree parsing paths log out-of-range 32-bit reg values but continue passing them to 8-bit protocol helpers, causing truncation and channel-identity aliasing. Exploitation requires influence over parsed SCMI device-tree nodes; the disclosed consequence is incorrect protocol selection, not demonstrated code execution or privilege escalation.
