Kernel memory corruption via gapped DAX arithmetic
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Incorrect address calculation in Linux 7.1 through 7.2.5 allows local users to read or write kernel memory through FS-DAX file I/O. The __fsdev_dax_direct_access function adds a linear byte offset to the first range's virtual address instead of translating each physical address independently. Exploitation requires an admin-bound, mounted multi-range DAX device with physical gaps; access to a file on that mount permits memory disclosure, corruption, or a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
