Kernel crash via racing DAX holder-pointer reads
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A DAX race in Linux Foundation Linux Kernel allows local users to crash the kernel via concurrent failure notification and teardown. In drivers/dax/super.c, dax_holder_notify_failure() checks holder_ops and reads it again for an indirect call, allowing fs_put_dax() to clear the pointer between those operations and cause a NULL dereference. Reachability requires overlapping DAX failure notification and teardown; public sources do not establish how an unprivileged user reliably forces that overlap.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
