Kernel crash via page-table collapse race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux x86 PAT allows local users to crash the kernel through concurrent module loading and unloading. In arch/x86/mm/pat/set_memory.c, cpa_collapse_large_pages() frees a PTE table while __change_page_attr() retains a pointer and subsequently writes through it. Triggering requires privileged module operations sharing a large ROX mapping; the stale write corrupts reused kernel memory and causes faults, with no demonstrated privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
