Hang via firmware log counter wrap
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Counter overflow in Linux 6.5 iwlwifi allows attackers to hang firmware error-log dumping via firmware-reported entry counts. The iwl_fwrt_dump_error_logs function uses an 8-bit count against a 32-bit num_pc, wrapping to zero when firmware advertises more than 255 PC entries. The condition requires the affected driver and firmware error-log path; upstream also identifies an out-of-bounds read risk but does not establish attacker control through Wi-Fi packets.
