Memory corruption via double-free during debugfs setup
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Double-free in Linux mtdswap allows local users to corrupt kernel memory when debugfs setup fails after device registration. In mtdswap_add_mtd(), del_mtd_blktrans_dev() releases mbd_dev, but cleanup then passes the same pointer to kfree(). Reaching this path requires mtdswap initialization and a debugfs setup failure; the published assessment requires privileged local access, and no demonstrated exploitation outcome is disclosed.
