DMA channel hang via unlocked state checks
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A dw-edma race in Linux 5.3 allows local users to hang a DMA channel by pausing it as transfer completion interrupts run. In drivers/dma/dw-edma/dw-edma-core.c, pause() and resume() access shared state without vc.lock, allowing a pause request to remain on an already idle channel and block issue_pending(). Exposure requires use of the affected DMA driver and the completion race; channel termination and reconfiguration do not clear the stale request, and the disclosure does not identify a user-space trigger.
