Kernel fault via unchecked DAC match data
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
NULL dereference in Linux 7.2 DAC probing allows local users to trigger a kernel fault via forced sysfs driver binding. The ad5686_spi_probe and ad5686_i2c_probe functions pass missing match data to ad5686_probe, which dereferences chip_info when a forced device name matches neither identification table. Triggering requires privileged sysfs binding access and successful probe initialization; the demonstrated code defect affects availability, not data access or privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
