Process termination via signed TGA palette length
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Denial of service in Tony Cook Imager before 1.036 allows remote attackers to terminate a host process via a crafted TGA file. The TGA reader stores the two-byte color-map length in a signed short, and tga_palette_read casts a negative value to size_t before requesting an allocation near SIZE_MAX. Any application that passes an attacker-supplied file to Imager->read is exposed, and allocation failure invokes an uncatchable exit(3) that terminates that host process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
