Administrator takeover via support-account identity confusion
Published Oct 10, 2026 · Updated Oct 10, 2026
Privilege escalation in Groundhogg 4.8.3 and earlier allows attackers to gain administrator access via support-account impersonation. The create_support_user() function treats an existing account named groundhogg with the user-controlled email [email protected] or [email protected] as trusted support and promotes it. Exploitation requires an account-creation path and a legitimate administrator invoking support access; multisite promotion also grants super admin when that administrator holds manage_network_options.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
