Service interruption via Promise thenable assimilation
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Protection mechanism failure in Patrik Simek vm2 before 3.11.8 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt host service execution. Promise static methods assimilate attacker-supplied thenables through PromiseResolveThenableJob, bypassing the patched Promise.prototype.then handler. The flaw requires untrusted sandbox code and allowAsync set to false; that code can run after VM.run() or NodeVM.run() returns and can block the host event loop outside the timeout.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
