Host command execution via unnormalized builtin deny token
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 26, 2026
Improper access control in NodeVM in vm2 3.11.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute host commands via sandbox code. Wildcard expansion compares node:-prefixed negative entries literally against canonical builtin names, leaving child_process available. Exploitation requires control of code run in a NodeVM with a wildcard allow policy and node:-prefixed deny entry, granting host process-spawning capability.
