Host process termination via unhandled Promise rejection
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Denial of service in Patrik Simek vm2 3.10.0 through 3.11.7 allows attackers to terminate the host Node.js process via a rejected Promise. The bridge apply path returns host-realm Promises without first attaching the rejection handler used for sandbox-created Promises. Sandbox code must reach an exposed Promise-returning API or the allowed NodeVM events builtin; ignoring a rejection then crashes the worker without exposing or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
