Host command execution via Promise handler indirection
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Sandbox escape in Patrik Simek vm2 3.11.6 allows remote attackers to execute commands in the host Node.js process via untrusted code. The bridge gate in lib/bridge.js checks only the direct call target, so Function.prototype.call or .apply skips rejection-value sanitization and passes a raw host error into the sandbox. Exploitation requires an exposed host Promise to reject with a non-primitive property referencing a host object, after which sandbox code gains the host process privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
