Host command execution via array-shaped require
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Improper sandbox restriction in vm2 3.11.4 through 3.11.6 allows attackers to execute host commands through a nested NodeVM. NodeVM treats an array-shaped require option as a real configuration, then destructures it into undefined fields while retaining the nesting override. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled JavaScript in a NodeVM with truthy nesting and an array-shaped require value, granting the host Node.js process privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
