Process crash via watchdog failover stack overflow
Published Sep 30, 2026 · Updated Sep 30, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Pgpool-II allows remote attackers to crash the main process via malformed watchdog failover messages. The watchdog failover-message handler writes attacker-controlled, arbitrary-length data onto the main-process stack without enforcing its buffer boundary. Exploitation requires watchdog to be enabled, its network port to be reachable, and wd_authkey to be unset; the reported effect is process termination, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
