Process crash via unbounded watchdog peer arrays
Published Sep 30, 2026 · Updated Sep 30, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Pgpool-II 3.5 through 4.7.2 allows remote authenticated users to crash a process via a crafted watchdog message. The watchdog peer-configuration parser insufficiently bounds the backend_desc and wd_nodes JSON arrays before writing into fixed-size arrays. Exploitation requires enabled, reachable watchdog communication and peer access; the documented consequence is process termination or memory corruption, not established code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.5.x <=4.2.x
