Code execution via malformed watchdog failover message
Published Sep 30, 2026 · Updated Sep 30, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Pgpool-II 3.5 through 4.7.2 allows remote authenticated users to corrupt memory through watchdog failover messages. Watchdog failover processing accepts a malformed request and writes an attacker-controlled 32-bit value to an unintended memory address. Exploitation requires an enabled, reachable watchdog and can crash a Pgpool-II process or execute arbitrary code.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.5.x <=4.2.x
- Affected versionversion=4.3.0 <=4.3.20
- Affected versionversion=4.4.0 <=4.4.17
