Root code execution via systemd directive injection
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 19, 2026
Systemd unit injection in rcourtman Pulse 6.0.0 through 6.0.4 and 6.1.0-rc.0 through 6.1.0-rc.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute root commands. The Quick Security Setup handler inserts the unvalidated username into a systemd override with fmt.Sprintf, so newline characters can add directives such as ExecStartPre. Exploitation requires a bootstrap token or administrative credentials, a root-running systemd deployment, and a later service restart.
