Virtual machine takeover via unchecked grant flags
Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Missing authorization in WebVirtCloud commit 1b2da68 allows remote authenticated users with read-only grants to control virtual machines. The get_instance gate verifies only that a UserInstance grant exists and ignores its is_change, is_delete, and is_vnc permission flags. A read-only grant is sufficient to power off a guest, reset its root password, install an SSH key, manage ISO media, or detach disks.
