Guest credential disclosure via visible process arguments
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Sensitive data exposure in cockpit-machines on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 allows local users to read guest VM credentials from process arguments. The install_machine.py script embeds rootPassword and userPassword values in a JSON command-line argument while creating or installing a VM. Exposure lasts only during that workflow and requires local process visibility; it does not alter the guest or host.
