Code execution via automatically loaded subtitle-linked scripts
Published Oct 9, 2026 · Updated Oct 9, 2026
Code execution in Aegisub 3.2.0 through 3.4.2 allows attackers to run Automation scripts when victims open crafted ASS subtitle files. The Automation Scripts metadata loader executes referenced scripts without a trust check; in 3.4.0 through 3.4.2, extension validation and filesystem operations interpret embedded NUL characters differently, allowing an ASS/Lua polyglot to execute itself. Exploitation requires opening the malicious subtitle file, but requires no authentication or elevated privileges and executes code with the Aegisub process's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
