Registry credential theft via mixed-address DNS answers
Published Oct 7, 2026 · Updated Oct 7, 2026
Improper registry TLS validation in Docker Engine before 29.8.2 and Moby before 2.0.0-beta.25 allows remote attackers to steal registry credentials. loadInsecureRegistries() trusts loopback ranges by default, and isCIDRMatch accepts any loopback DNS answer even though the transport dials the hostname again. An attacker must influence DNS for a registry the daemon contacts; the insecure connection can expose registry credentials or substitute image manifests and layers.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Activity data is delayed. The latest report is Sep 28, 2026.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
