Memory leak via incomplete BPF JIT cleanup
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Oct 19, 2026
A memory leak in Linux's RISC-V BPF JIT allows local users to leave kernel memory allocated after subprogram compilation fails. The bpf_jit_free() function releases the JIT metadata without freeing jit_data->ctx.offset, which an earlier compilation pass retains for subsequent processing. Triggering requires access to BPF JIT compilation and failure in a later subprogram; the documented consequence is leaked kernel memory, not a demonstrated crash or data disclosure.
