Kernel memory corruption via miscalculated tailcall offset
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Kernel stack corruption in affected Linux kernels allows local users to crash the system or corrupt kernel memory through BPF tail calls. The RISC-V JIT adds the KCFI instruction offset twice, making a tail call skip the stack-pointer adjustment and execute with the caller's kernel frame exposed. Exploitation requires a CONFIG_CFI_CLANG build and either unprivileged BPF access, CAP_BPF, or a delegated BPF token.
