Host crash via RDMA completion-queue lifetime race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux RDMA completion-queue teardown in affected branches from 4.16 allows local users to crash the host via a race. ib_destroy_cq_user removes a queue from restrack only after vendor resources are freed, so a concurrent netlink lookup can retain and access stale queue state. An unprivileged account and an RDMA device are required; successful races can read or corrupt freed kernel memory or panic the host.
