Use-after-free via RDMA counter teardown race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux RDMA counters allows local users to cause unspecified impact via netlink access during counter destruction. In drivers/infiniband/core/counters.c, counter_release() frees vendor resources before removing the counter from restrack, while rdma_get_counter_by_id() takes references without rejecting a zero reference count. Exploitation requires local netlink access racing RDMA counter teardown; the upstream disclosure does not establish a crash or code-execution outcome.
