Data corruption via shared-mapping zeroing race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Race condition in Linux 7.2 exFAT allows local users to corrupt file data via concurrent stores to a shared writable mapping. The map_pages path bypasses exfat_page_mkwrite(), leaving valid_size behind mapped writes; subsequent gap zeroing overwrites data stored through the mapping. Triggering requires writable access to an exFAT file and a mapped store racing with valid_size extension by a buffered write or page fault.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
