Out-of-bounds read via unterminated debugfs input
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in Linux 5.16 UFS debugfs allows local users to trigger unsafe parsing via a full-length write. The ufs_saved_err_write() handler copies 16 bytes into a zero-initialized stack buffer, removing its terminator before calling kstrtoint(). Access requires an exposed UFS debugfs file and write permission to saved_err or saved_uic_err, which have owner-only permissions; published evidence does not establish a resulting crash or data disclosure.
