Local process crash via stale command-node dereference

Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026

Use-after-free in the BIFS handler in GPAC 26.08-DEV allows local users to crash MP4Box with a crafted scene file. During scene-graph teardown, gf_sg_command_del follows a stale command-node reference after nested node destruction instead of clearing its back-reference before freeing the command. The issue requires local execution against a malicious BIFS or LASeR input and has no published confidentiality or integrity impact.
