Crash via recursive deactivation of freed scene nodes

Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026

Use-after-free in GPAC 26.08-DEV MP4Box allows local users to crash the process via a crafted MP4 file analyzed with -nstatx. In src/scenegraph/base_scenegraph.c, gf_node_deactivate_ex continues traversing children of already-deactivated nodes, reaching freed nodes in malformed scene graphs. Exploitation requires local file processing with scene-statistics analysis; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash, not code execution or data disclosure.
