SMF crash via unchecked PFCP volume measurement
Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Null pointer dereference in Open5GS 2.0 through 2.8.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash the SMF via a crafted PFCP report. The ogs_pfcp_parse_volume_measurement function reads a flags octet from absent IE data and copies flagged fields from short IEs without checking their declared length. Exploitation requires an associated UPF and a live PDU session, and the demonstrated consequence is SMF service interruption.
