Process termination via unbounded request-body buffering

Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026

Resource exhaustion in Caddy 2.11.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to terminate the process via an oversized HTTP request body. modules/caddyhttp/replacer.go resolves {http.request.body} by copying the entire body into memory with unbounded io.Copy before request_body limits apply. Exploitation requires a configuration that resolves the placeholder; one unauthenticated request can exhaust memory and terminate the process.
