Crash via out-of-bounds IMAP response read
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Thunderbird's IMAP response parser allows remote attackers controlling an IMAP server to crash Thunderbird. The parser reads beyond a response buffer while processing a crafted untagged IMAP ID response before authentication. The attacker must control or compromise the configured IMAP server; successful exploitation interrupts the mail client, with no established data disclosure or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
