MFA bypass via prematurely issued persistence cookie
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Authentication bypass in Joomla! CMS 4.0.0 through 5.4.8 and 6.0.0 through 6.1.3 allows attackers to bypass MFA via persistent cookies. The core login flow issues a persistent-login cookie before MFA completes, allowing cookie-based authentication to bypass the second factor. The relevant site must use persistent login and MFA; the vendor does not specify whether valid primary credentials or an existing cookie are required.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
