Authenticated script execution via unescaped console URI
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Apache Sling XSS Protection before 2.4.12 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in the Web Console. The plugin derives consoleRoot from the request URI and inserts it unescaped into single-quoted script and link attributes, allowing crafted URI text to break out of an attribute. Exploitation requires the optional Felix Web Console and a logged-in user to open a crafted plugin request, after which script runs in the console origin.
