Server process termination via unchecked smartcard ATR lengths
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in FreeRDP 3.28.0 through 3.30.0 allow remote authenticated users to terminate an RDP server process. The server-side Status and GetStatusChange decoders pass attacker-controlled ATR lengths exceeding their fixed 32- and 36-byte arrays to logging and callbacks. Exploitation requires smartcard redirection, an outstanding matching request, and a length-trusting consumer; no data-return or memory-write path is established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
