Local root code execution via credential CRLF injection
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
CRLF injection in GNOME NetworkManager-fortisslvpn allows local users to execute arbitrary code as root through a malicious VPN profile. The privileged nm-fortisslvpn-service accepts CR/LF characters in credential fields, causing injected configuration directives to be processed when the profile is activated. Any unprivileged local user can exploit an installed plugin; an existing VPN connection is not required.
