Local privilege escalation via writable updater configuration
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Incorrect permissions in Foxit PDF Reader 2026.2 and earlier and Editor 13.2.6, 14.0.7, and 2026.2 and earlier allow local users to run elevated code. The update daemon permits regular users to modify its configuration and, on some builds, supplies user-controlled values to privileged upgrade operations. Successful exploitation requires local low-privilege access and can run an attacker-controlled script with updater privileges.
