Local linker crash via null dereference
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Null pointer dereference in GNU Binutils 2.47 allows local users to crash the GNU linker via a crafted x86 ELF input file. The elf_x86_allocate_dynrelocs function in bfd/elfxx-x86.c dereferences a null value while allocating dynamic relocations; the specific malformed field is undisclosed. Exploitation requires local invocation of ld with the crafted input, and the bounded consequence is termination of that linker process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
