Sandboxed code execution via Chromecast heap overflow
Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026
Heap buffer overflow in Google Chrome's Chromecast component before 148.0.7778.179 allows local attackers to execute code inside its sandbox. Google identifies a heap overwrite during Chromecast processing of malicious network traffic, but the restricted issue does not disclose the affected function, buffer, or faulty operation. Exploitation requires adjacent-network reachability and high-complexity conditions, and resulting code execution remains confined to the Chrome sandbox.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
