Unauthorized group access via missing role check
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Incorrect authorization in OpenWA 0.23.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to obtain active WhatsApp group invite codes. The REST invite-code route and GroupGetInviteCode MCP tool omit the OPERATOR-role requirement and return the code to a session-scoped VIEWER key. A VIEWER key and an administered group are required; the transferable code lets an external WhatsApp account join, read, post, and remain after key revocation.
