Media disclosure via stale public upload flags
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Information disclosure in Discourse upload handling allows remote attackers to read restricted media through public short upload URLs. Category permission changes fail to reconcile existing upload security metadata, leaving previously public attachments accessible anonymously, including those in deleted topics. Exposure requires secure uploads enabled and a previously public category becoming read-restricted, or category permissions changing during a bulk import.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
