CPU exhaustion via zero-byte container element types
Published Oct 2, 2026 · Updated Oct 2, 2026
Denial of service in Apache Thrift PHP bindings before 0.25.0 allows attackers to exhaust CPU via crafted binary container data. The native thrift_protocol accelerator accepts wire-supplied T_STOP or T_VOID element types and repeats deserialization or skipping for the declared count without consuming input bytes. Exploitation requires an application to load the extension and pass attacker-controlled binary data to it; the demonstrated consequence is prolonged CPU use, not data access.
