Guest post takeover via forged ownership cookie
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Missing authorization in AdvancedCoding wpForo Forum 3.1.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over guest posts. The wpforo_post_edit action trusts a forged comment_author_email ownership cookie instead of verifying that the subscriber owns the guest post. Guest posting and editing must be enabled, and the attacker must know the guest author's email address; successful requests change the title, body, author name, and stored owner email.
