Command execution via polluted CSV file path
Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026
Prototype pollution in MongoDB Compass 1.36.3 through 1.49.5 allows remote attackers to execute commands through a crafted CSV import. During CSV parsing, attacker-controlled fields pollute object prototypes, allowing an untrusted file path—but not command arguments—to flow into Electron's shell.openExternal handler. Execution requires the user to import the crafted file and then perform the specific follow-on interaction that opens the polluted path.
