CVE-2026-90947Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked lighting preset count

Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in GIMP's Lighting Effects filter allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted preset file. The Lighting Effects preset loader accepts a light-source count without validating it against the destination array before writing source records beyond the array bounds. Exploitation requires a user to open the malicious preset; successful memory corruption can crash GIMP or execute code in the user's process.
