Arbitrary directory deletion via cache-group path traversal
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Path traversal in Joomla! CMS 4.0.0 through 5.4.8 and 6.0.0 through 6.1.3 lets remote authenticated users delete directories via cache purge. The file-backed caching layer fails to validate a cache group name before using it as a directory path, allowing traversal outside the intended cache location. Exploitation requires high-privilege access to the purge action, and deletion is limited to directories the Joomla process can remove.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
