Account takeover via credentialed origin reflection
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
CORS misconfiguration in the Open VSX Registry hosted service allows remote attackers to read authenticated user data cross-origin. The CDN or edge layer reflects an arbitrary Origin while permitting credentials on /user endpoints, exposing user records and the CSRF token to attacker-controlled pages. A logged-in user must visit an attacker origin; the page can then create and exfiltrate a personal access token with namespace publishing and deletion rights.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
