Process crash via stale scene-node deactivation
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
Use-after-free in GPAC MP4Box 26.07.0 allows local users to crash the process by analyzing a crafted MP4 with scene statistics. The scene-command path removes and frees a node before gf_node_deactivate_ex reads that stale node while applying an embedded DEACTIVATE command. Exploitation requires local execution of MP4Box with the -nstatx option against attacker-controlled media and interrupts only that process.
